J. Morgan Puett

 

 

 

 

J.Morgan Puett wears the "Jill of All Trades" artist's hat. When it comes to creating work, she doesn't stop at sculpture, or even installation. She creates entire collections of clothes, or a running farmhouse dedicated to her art concepts.  I had written a paper about her collaboration with Mark Dion when in art school, but was recently reminded of her creative pursuits here.

Reading her artists statement and her research on textiles and interest in clothing from 1900-1930 as items which were consistently reused, remade and recycled, reminded me of my own interests brought about from a rural upbringing. Her images and works are at once nostalgic and conceptual. The two installation images are storefronts in NYC from the early 1990's.

How was your Thanksgiving dearests? Mine was relaxing and low key -a very nice change since we are usually traveling. So, are you ready to shop?

I die! Catbird is glamorous, extremely chic, with just a touch of whimsy and wry. My sister came across this find on her NYC trip this year and put my email address on the mailing list of this Williamsburg shop. I nearly forgot about them until I received their holiday update this week. And what a wonderfully fabulous reminder it has been! 

The Catbird style reminds me of my friend Daniella of Dress Design Decor. They even have a shopping category called " shop by story" where you pick your style (i.e. glamour, classic, wood nymph, city cool) and they provide a curated gallery of products just for you! Have fun finding your style! Mine is Classic. What is yours???

I will have some great holiday gift guide ideas for you next week, but I think shopping at Catbird is a good start.

Faded Memories.... nostalgic photography

 

  

Greetings! I hope you will get off work early today and begin to enjoy a long weekend (for those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving this week). I was putting together a cluster on Lovely Clusters last night and came across some really wonderful photography from several new to me artists.

Simply Hue is the work of Vicki Dvorak, a blogging friend of mine with a new found talent of nostalgic photography. I really enjoy her latest pieces that offer up a message of peace and hope.

Sweet Eventide's images revel in the beauty of the world at dusk. 

City Light has some sweet Christmas images with faded elegance met with a retro vibe.

Tina Crespos work is focused around nature and landscape. She came to my attention via the blog, Green and Pretty, which features a great collage of Tina's work paired with cozy places! Very clever.

Today I am thankful for...

A : Art. what would the world be without it. And now that is so readily accessible to all, it is an easy feast for the soul.

N: Nature. Again, food for the soul. My heart would ache without my daily walks through the wooded parks that surround my home.

Hello friends. Well, it is Thanksgiving week in the States and I should be posting a mood board of oranges, pumpkin, grey and cream, but after reading Leslie's Color Me Pretty post on Decor8 yesterday, I couldn't help but be inspired by festive pastels. Plus, I have been wanting to share these lovely wreaths from Oh Merci (Caitlin Holcomb's mother). So why not. Why not use pink, lavender and aqua for this time of year?? They are my favorite colors so I am just going with it. Plus I just finished this series of floral brooches that I wanted to share with you. And on top of all that I was also inspired by the Days of Gratitude seen on Design Delights. Im a little late to do all of the letters of the alphabet, so I will just share a few this week. (Using the word THANKS).

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? (If you are celebrating Thanksgiving in the states, are you preparing for your celebration?) This will be our first Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday at home in Nashville and I went to Trader Joe's yesterday to prepare for our meager little vegetarian feast this week, because I need all the help I can get. Im not much of a cook but I try and with a picky husband and dietary restrictions myself we require some creativity in the kitchen. But more on that later. Today I just can't wait to show you these amazing images from two of my favorite new blogs both from the southern hemisphere. I love seeing images from sources I have yet seen. Don't you? And these two design oriented blogs offer so much inspiration! First is Brabourne Farm written by a gal in Australia with a knack for finding gorgeous photos. She (I am assuming this author is a woman, but I could be wrong) also writes a foodie blog, Brabourne Farm Kitchen. My second favorite blog this week is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Decor and Gifts, written by Mirella and chock full of great images to provide inspiration for home. She too has some wonderful sources for furniture and design that I had not seen.  Did you notice my secondary theme in these photos chosen. Its a two for one deal here at g.s. today. I collected images from these blogs that offer creative options for painted furniture. As a decorative artist who spends her time refurbishing client's walls and furniture pieces, I found these images (and more from the blog sites) inspirational for my resource book. Hope you are inspired and are off to a great start of your week! Thanks for listening to my babbling. I've missed hearing from you.

Introducing W5RAN

Greetings friends! Holiday Shop Udate

 

 

Over the last couple of months Eve and I have been busily working on new product for the Gathering Spriggs shop, 2009 Holiday season.  We don't work within a set theme or even plan our designs with each other but we do both find inspiration from nature and find pleasure in upcycling most of our products from found objects, thrift store finds or even in some cases from our own backyard! My work this fall has centered around a color story of teal, lavender coupled with warm metallics.( including the t shirts and fabric collaged wall art.) Eve is a fiber artist to the core - she has created a series of beautiful scarves and pin sets along with collaged textile designs and original printed cards. Happy Wednesday!! Im excited because my weekend starts tomorrow! (my husband and I are taking a little trip to Birmingham, AL for a concert). Hope you have some fun travel plans coming up too. Well, over the course of about a week I have discovered about 10 new fascinating blogs. Although tempted to share all at once, I am going to just give you a couple at a time in order to savor each of them fully.

First blog is: 1richtungsblog, written by Anita from Graz, Austria ( who once lived in Dallas, TX as a stylist). Her style is strong and evident in her amazing blog with wonderful finds. She also has a handy Google translate button at the top for easy translation (if you need that sort of thing, like me).

Second blog today: Love, Obsess, Inspire by Lexi, a smashing designer oozing with chic! She is a graphic designer and Im just so envious of her ability to style her blog with beautiful texts. It is what I would want g.s. to look like if I could do all of that!
