Its the Little Things in Life that sometimes have the most impact on our heart and spirits. Wouldn't you agree? Why else would we save movie tickets, medals, feathers, jewelry, letters, etc... Personally, I have always been attracted to the small things in life... literally miniature items. My artwork is small, my teacups dainty, photo frames within inches and I love a super ultra fine tipped ink pen. So today I come to you with a creative invitation to share the little things in your life that are dear to your heart. To participate, just add your thoughtfully arranged vignettes of your favorite items to the Gathering Spriggs flickr group. And remember these simple rules: 

-no flash photography

-images must be your own

-no nudity

Usually I don't take the time to read chain store catalogues (except Anthropologie and JCrew of course). But this weekend I paged carefully through the Restoration Hardware Fall 2010 Catalogue because I was intrigued by the rough hewn aesthetic on the cover. Since I have been in the process of refinishing some antique furniture recently (... yes, I do mean stripping, sanding, re-staining and sealing) I found myself drawn to the natural wood tones of all their featured pieces. A far cry from the dark walnut stains of say 2002!! The concept as a whole intrigues me even though I could never afford their furniture and prefer scouring flea markets and junk shops for my prized pieces( notice I didn't include their pages here--- still a little too masculine for me). However, it did prompt a complete overhaul on my decorative painting business identity, blog and logo. See what you think. I have always resisted letting this blog and that one overlap. But now, I am really excited about this look so much so that I might just start posting my work regularly and letting you have a peek from time to time. (even if my work is more tailored to my client's needs instead of my own aesthetic) Anyway.... enough about me.

Happy Friday and Happy Weekend dear friends! What sorts of plans do you have this weekend?? Mine will be fun but busy. Catching up on housework, making samples for clients, preparing my home for a very special guest coming for Labor Day ( i will share more later.. but she is a dear friend met right through this very blog). Then after the chores my treat will be going to the flea market on Sunday.

Things I Love Thursdays: TeaTime

 

 

 

 

 

Everyday starts new with a cup of tea. The most consumed worldwide beverage (after water) is my daily dose of happy. Last week my friend Eve and her daughter Hannah joined me for a tea luncheon at our local tea house, Savannah Tea Company. Not only did we enjoy pots of Lavender Tea and Chicken Salad Sandwhiches but the joy of watching 4 year old Hannah try a multitude of hats on that hang on the walls for guests engage with. Soon, we all joined in and tried on vintage hats from floral straw to pillbox. Few other things bring me so much pleasure than taking tea with dear friends. In honor of the day I came home to start work on the above painting. It still a work in progress but I am working on courage to share more of my art with you instead of waiting on perfection. Thanks for being here to let me share with you. So if you are in the Nashville area someday... lets get together for tea! :)

Hello Lovelies. I've missed being more present with you this week since its back to the real job. How are you doing?? I know I've said it already but I am so looking forward to fall. to a new season and new beginnings and then a new year right around the corner. After reading my dear friend, Kristie's post over on Making Arrangements yesterday on the Sherwin Williams Color predictions for next year, I was so inspired that I created my own ensemble based on their findings. And as a talked with Elizabeth of Betty Hatchett design last night we made some of our own speculations on the moving of color and design trends away from hard edged graphics and saturated colors to something softer more fluid ... maybe even toned down a bit.  So won't you join in the conversation! What are your findings? What are your predictions for design this year?

Illustrious Illustrator: Nikki Catalano

 

Wow. I think Nikki's work matches my blog better than my own work... Doesn't it fit in here nicely? Thanks to Nancy at Wolf and Willow, I came across this uber talented Aussie artistI And her characters seem to feel right at home here.  Nikki is a designer/illustrator and creates a variety of products from her series of illustrations and digital collages based on her love of textiles too. I'm still not awake this morning and would love a hug from the bunnies in the last image. Isn't that a sweet reminder that you are loved. I think I will take this with me today and put it in my mental pocket.

Happy Monday dear readers! A new week has dawned for me and I am returning back to work this week after a several week hiatus from spraining my ankle. School starts this week and my husband returns to teaching.... September is upon us and I feel the changes in the air creeping up. Exciting changes. Fresh renewal. I love when the seasons are on the cusp of change and you say goodbye and hello all at once. These images from Nicholas Lawn felt like the perfect fit for such a transition. I especially love the nostalgic  vibe in these shoots. So what about you? Are you transitioning too? Do you feel change in the air?

Well, I have just the thing for you...blogs I have discovered via photographs on Flickr. ( my source for creative inspiration). I am constantly amazed how wonderfully talented so many women in the world today are especially when it comes to creating gorgeous photographs. (not an easy task). I realized early on that photography was not my calling so I will stick to paint brushes but deeply admire these talented women who create beauty with a lens.
